In the southern part of Lyon's Presqu'île peninsula, the 2nd District borders the 1st District in the vicinity of Saint-Nizier Church. The interior of this fifteenth century church is a fine example of the Gothic Flamboyant style. Running alongside the Saône and the Rhône, the district stretches to the confluence of these two rivers. This area deserves a special mention, as it lends its name to today's "Lyon Confluence" project, which involves transforming all of the area located to the south of the Perrache train station with the creation of new public leisure areas to replace the former docks that once were home to Lyon's wholesale market.
