In the heart of Lyon's 2nd District (69002), the Perrache neighborhood is symbolized by the eponymous train station that has itself long been the symbol of railway traffic in Lyon. Today largely replaced by the Part-Dieu train station, Perrache has become the hub of Lyon's public transport network, with subway line A connecting with tramway lines T1 and T2 and TCL bus lines. The station, whose classical architecture opened directly onto Place Carnot, from which it was separated by a tree-lined walkway perfect for leisurely strolls, was transformed into a vast roadway interchange in the 1970s, with the A6 Freeway entering (and exiting) the Fourviere Tunnel and connections to urban transport lines.
