The small-sized 6th District (69006) is Lyon's "chic" neighborhood, the equivalent of the 16th District in Paris. Bordered on the west by the Rhône, separated from the 3rd District in the south by Cours Lafayette, it extends east to Villeurbanne near the old Brotteaux railway station. The northern part is home to Parc de la Tête d'Or. Built up gradually, like the other districts on the left bank of the Rhône, amidst a vast alluvial plain, its urbanization began in the late eighteenth century under the impetus of Jean-Antoine Morand, who in 1775 also built the wooden bridge (Pont Morand) crossing the Rhône to link Terreaux to the Brotteaux.

In addition to the major shopping streets such as Franklin Roosevelt cours, cours Vitton and that cross in the wake of the Pont Morand notable sectors are primarily the Parc de la Tête d'Or, a beautiful public park, with its 105 hectares and its lake of 16 hectares, is among the largest and most beautiful urban parks in France. It is a place for traditional promenade frequented by many pedestrians and cyclists. Former property of the Hospices Civils de Lyon this location was chosen to install on the plans of the architect Christophe Bonnet, a Botanical Garden, quickly supplemented by the Orangerie and the Grandes Serres. The park was then opened to the presentation of animals with a park with sheep, a pen of chickens, a cow pasture and then gradually the arrival of exotic animals and most recently the African plain, which opened in October 2006. In 1894 the Parc de la Tête d'Or has hosted the World Expo, international and colonial. An area between the park and the Rhône has long been devoted to exhibitions in the first place with the traditional Fair of Lyon, since 1984 and moved to the place called Chassieu Eurexpo now.

The station Brotteaux is another interesting part of this borough. Old station of the PLM (Paris-Lyon-Méditerranée) long dedicated rail links with Geneva and Ambérieu, it is now completely abandoned and was replaced by the Gare de Lyon Part-Dieu. The building which dates back to 1908 was between 2002 and 2006 major work that gave him the look of the early last century. Now houses a gallery auctions, a brewery and various other activities it is classified a historical monument since 1983.

Finally a special mention for the Rhone, which were fully equipped for a pleasant stroll that leads along the river from the Parc de la Tête d'Or Parc de Gerland until in the 7th district along after the 3rd district. These facilities were inaugurated on 7 May 2007 for the celebration of Europe whose representation was made for theme decorating these 5 km journey on foot.
